Evgenia Muravyova Biography

Evgenia Muravyova: I love the intensity of passions on the scene of the memory of Maris Jansons on his birthday Valery Gergiev dedicated one of the iconic repertoire performances of the Mariinsky Theater. The maestro Jansons had a special rash for this work: in the Netherlands National Opera and at the Salzburg festival, he acted as a conductor of the opera drama Shostakovich.

In the Maris Theater, Maris Arvidovich took part in the Summer Marathon Symphony Dmitry Shostakovich at the Festival "Stars of the White Nights" in the year by the composer's birthday. Then the sixth symphony and the first piano concert with a solo pipe sounded - Denis Matsuev and Konstantin Baryshev. The Mariinsky production of Lady Macbeth Mtsensk district, together with the new Israeli opera Tel Aviv, was performed by director Irina Molostova on the basis of the first author’s edition of the year-the way the twenty-eight-year-old composer conceived and embodied her.

He called his opera Shostakovich a satir tragedy, who, with merciless directness with bright musical means, draws a portrait of a woman who is both a victim and a criminal. Katerina is faced with loneliness, which suddenly flashed with a passion for Sergey, pushing her on the thorny road of murders and deprivation. The wonderful Russian Soprano, the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Yevgeny Muravyov piercing her heroine, demonstrating a powerful dramatic vocal.

She created on the stage a bright image of a riveting woman, psychologically tragedy against the background of a mocking crowd of the local coat of the Izmailov house and at the same time epic scene of hard labor in the final. Katerina is forced to conflict with vulgarity, cruelty, egoism of the people surrounding her, but also to fight with the “devil” of violence, who settled in her own soul.

Evgenia Muravyova happened to participate in the play of the Salzburg festival in the year under the direction of Marisa Jansons. It was he who made a bet on this talented young singer, who in the first premiere performances sang a party of Aksinya, but due to the sick Swedish Soprano Stamme, the role of Izmailova was entrusted to the St. Petersburg artist. Since then, Eugene has not parted with this party and willingly perform it in Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theaters, invariably finding new colors and emotional shades.

Wa Evgenia, how do you remember the image of Maris Jansons - this bright person and an insightful musician? EMA Maris Arvidovich is the brightest person, he was distinguished by special decency, endurance, humanity and kindness. From the first rehearsals, I found in him a love of soloists who participated in the play, the desire to help every talent and give him support and reveal as much as possible.

What did you inspire the most in working with the maestro? First of all, I eat true musicality, a subtle sense of music, co -creation, severity and at the same time softness in working with musicians. Wa Evgenia, what is the personal tragedy of the main character of the opera Shostakovich? EM Katerina was born a man with a rich soul and an open heart, she needed a full -fledged life, saturated with events, emotions and, of course, the happiness of being a beloved woman and a caring mother.

Without all this, she felt like in a deaf prison, and this did not give her rest, she tormented her for several years, until the life situation pushed her unhappy to what happened ultimately. Having such a suffering soul, Katerina simply could not do otherwise. As a result, all her strong instincts and feelings of the first man fall out. She does crazy acts for his sake, including goes to murders.

She determined such a price with her happiness, she could not do otherwise, since she did not find a way out. Having trusted Sergei, she turned out to be deceived and devoted to them. The very fact that Izmailova is in prison is not a tragedy for her, her main tragedy is the betrayal of Sergey! Do you condemn the actions of Katerina, and what, in your opinion, is due to its manic passion, coupled with suffering and misfortunes?

I cannot condemn the actions of Katerina, because, having been in such circumstances, a woman can really fall into madness to some extent and be capable of brutal killings and other crimes. The environment of the Mtsenskaya servants made her so cruel and desperate. A sip of necessary love and carnal passion makes it manic to madness.

Evgenia Muravyova Biography

Fear of losing these feelings again pursues her. Va Katerina provokes Sergei to commit atrocities. Is this an evil rock or a mockery of fate? Em Sergey turned up the opportunity to commit a crime, and this turned out to be only an occasion to switch to a new level for him in his sneakiness and thirst for “making a career”. Inwardly, he was already ready for this.

Va Katerina ate herself from sins and oppression with her death? EM Katerina does not atone for her sins by committing suicide. To commit suicide is too simple a decision to rid yourself from suffering. Eat, absolutely!Molostov, unlike Crigenburg, interprets this production more traditionally, bringing it closer to the time of the action of Leskov - historical costumes, corsets, Russian hut, life and the way of that era.

The version of Andreas is too modern, in the refraction of the gaze of a modern person on a problem that can be relevant in our time. Modern costumes and architectural elements of scenography prevail there. A fragment with Mimans was also added, which displayed the murder of his nephew Katerina. Wa but there is no this scene in Shostakovich’s opera. Do you think the composer deliberately distanced from her in the libretto of his opera, unlike the literary primary source of Leskov?

Yes, of course, Shostakovich consciously how the artist reads this story, refracting perception through his artistic vision. He identifies the line of relations between Katerina and Sergey, and at the expense of some nuances, for example, without showing the murder of his nephew, or how she gives the born child to the shelter, wants to justify her heroine. And you involuntarily sympathize with her.

Was there a work in your creative career, comparable in scale to this psychological drama? I have a special passion for tragic images and generally really like the intensity of passions on the stage!
