Maslova Galina Lvovna Biography
State Pediatric Medical Academy, St. Petersburg School of Mikhail Stepanovich Maslova Contact information: Mikirtichan Galina Lvovna, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Disciplines and Bioetics of the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy Address:, St. Petersburg, ul. Lithuanian, village of Maslov is the creator of one of the largest scientific schools in Soviet pediatrics.
The prerequisites for its occurrence were socio-historical, subjectological and personality-psychological factors. The formation of the scientific school of M. Maslov and its successful activity was facilitated by the favorable conditions created for the development of science in our country in the first years of Soviet power, and the state’s great attention to the protection of motherhood and childhood.
The level of development of theoretical and clinical medicine, including pediatrics, has also become a significant factor. On the border of the XIX and XX centuries, the pediatrics was already an independent medical specialty, scientific discipline and achieved significant success. The works of N. Gundobin and his students laid the theoretical foundation of pediatrics, and its clinical foundations were created by the scientific school of N.
Filatov. As a doctor and scientific worker, M. Maslov was formed in one of the oldest medical institutions of our country-at the Military Medical Academy named after Kirov VMA in Leningrad. Interest in research work appeared in him in his student years. For 2 years, he worked in the laboratory of Professor A. Moiseev in pathological histology. After graduating with the honorship of the VMA in the city of Ziber-Shumova, this work was the doctoral dissertation of M.
Maslov “On the biological role of phosphorus for the growing organism” in the VMA, he was brought up on the traditions of scientific pediatrics associated with the outstanding pediatricians S. Khotovitsky, N. Svetov, N. Gundobi, A. Kakarin by the invariant problem of the department of the pediatrician was the study of the age characteristics of children. The issues developed by the school of M.
Maslov are continued with his predecessors. Continuity is an ambiguous concept, including both loyalty to traditions and innovation, which clearly reflected in the development of the school of M. Such a peculiar combination ensured the viability of the school. Mikirtichan for the formation of the M. Maslov school, fundamental importance was the success of the natural sciences - physics, chemistry, biochemistry, the methods of which he used to resolve a number of Pediatrics issues.
An essential factor for the formation of any scientific school is a scientific base. The advantage of M. Maslov was two basic institutions, and most importantly - these were higher educational medical institutions, which helped the implementation and combination of two leading functions of a scientific school - research and educational. The personal qualities of M.
Maslov contributed to the fulfillment of the role of the leader of the scientific team. From his youth, he was distinguished by perseverance in achieving the goal and hard work. He was characterized by an understanding of the new one on the basis of the exceptional knowledge of the old, the versatility of scientific interests and at the same time focus on the problems that interested him throughout his creative life, attention to the methodological issues of science.
He combined interest in science with the desire for collective creativity. An analysis of the activities of M. Maslov as the head of the school showed that he belonged to those scientists who invariably needed students and followers, in turn, serving the center of attraction for researchers. He was firmly convinced that it is possible to comprehensively illuminate this or that question only in the process of collective study.
When the work comes out of such a large scientific team, it can be treated with confidence, because the scientific-clinical experience and critical attitude of the institution itself is hidden ”[1]. When studying the history of a particular scientific school, it is sometimes difficult to indicate the exact date of its birth. Speaking about the school of M.
Maslov, this can be done with complete certainty. Already in Maslov, he presented 10 reports in which, from the standpoint of a single methodological approach, new data on the study of enzymatic functions in childhood under various physiological and pathological conditions were generalized, especially with the abnormalities of the Constitution, as well as nutrition and digestion disorders in infants.
Studies were distinguished by originality, unity of theme, novelty, relevance. It is at this congress ST. Having headed the Department of Children's Diseases of the VMA in the year in the X, he, along with his first team of employees, began to implement the research program, including the knowledge of the processes occurring in the growing body and determining the health and illness of the child.
This program was due to the development of pediatrics and was included in its subject-logical system. In the process of implementing the research program, many scientific problems of pediatrics were studied.Their many were due to the breadth of the research program, but all of them were logically interconnected and had great practical significance. To resolve these problems, M.
Maslov used functional and biochemical research methods. This period can be described as the creation of Masolov of a small group in science, mainly related to the VMA and laid the beginning of the future school. The composition of the first scientific team, formed at the Department of Children's Diseases of the VMA, in the GG. Rudnev and V. Znamensky, who worked at the department even at II.
Gundobin and A. Kkarin and V. After the election of M. Rudnev in the city, A. Tour and Yu. The department began to attract doctors who could work as externs, actively joining the medical and scientific activity. Kazan, left interesting memories of working conditions in the children's clinic of the VMA in the GG. In particular, she wrote: “After a working day, the whole team was taken for scientific work.
Most of the work was concentrated in the laboratory laboratory located on the ground floor, was isolated from residential premises and therefore had a very low temperature in winter. The laboratory was heated by a template that gave more smoke and soot than heat, especially since the firewood was raw. We ourselves had to heat, wash, dry and sterilize the dishes.
At our own expense, we had to get the necessary dishes, chemicals and even equipment, often denied ourselves in everything, but all this did not weaken our zeal. On the contrary, we showed maximum energy and achieved the desired results. Mikhail Stepanovich, before leaving home, often went to the laboratory, sometimes silently watched how work was going, sometimes approaching one or another employee, asked questions, made valuable sentences and adjustments.
His parish “revived our thoughts and woke the initiative” [2]. Indeed, M. Maslov loved the laboratory very much. Most of his students inherited this love. The clinic doors were open for everyone who wanted to learn pediatrics. The doctors of the city came to the lectures of M. Maslov, participated in his clinical bypass. Even experienced children's doctors of Leningrad, such as A.
Antonov, P. Pimenov, M. Farfel, constantly visited the clinic, worked with patients, got acquainted with scientific topics, studied scientific research methods.
Pediatricians who came to Leningrad from other regions of the country considered their duty to visit the clinic, to find out what new can be borrowed for implementation in their institutions. Some doctors used their vacation to improve their qualifications, working in a clinic of childhood diseases under the leadership of M. with G. to his first employees Sadykov, E.
Friedman, O. Timofeeva, Rm. Muravina and others.
