His ancestors were serfs of the Vladimir province, who independently bought out of the wild. Nikolai joined reading and literature early. As a twelve -year -old teenager, he witnessed the grandiose Pushkin celebrations in Moscow: the discoveries of the monument to the poet, the performances of Dostoevsky, Turgenev and others. A little earlier, at ten years old, in the printing house of Ivan Sytin, Nikolai met the process of the emergence of the book.

Over time, there was a need to join the literary process himself. Business ties and friendship with Sytin will accompany Nikolai all his life. He later received a good education at the Moscow Practical Commercial Academy, which he graduated from the year. In the same year, in the magazine "Rainbow" he publishes his first poem "abandoned". Two years later, Teleshov takes an active part in the preparation of the collection of young poets “Sincere Word”.

Along with poetry, Nikolai Dmitrievich is also engaged in prose. The main theme of early stories is the merchant and bourgeois life: “Rooster”, “Meshchanskaya Drama” “Duel”, “Nameday”. These and other works compiled the first collection “On the Troika”. On the advice of Chekhov in the year, televisionshov takes his own long journey to Siberia, the result of which is a series of stories dedicated to the life of immigrants: the cycles “For the Urals”, “In Siberia” and “Migrants”; The stories “Need”, “On the move”, “Self -propelled for the move”, “Home”, etc.

Nikolai Dmitrievich for the first time in Russia organized a rural gymnasium for workers, railway servants and peasants in the Moscow Region. Ten years in it for free or for a reduced fee, children of the poorest peasants and workers studied on the principle of joint training.

After the October Revolution, Teleshov took part in the work of the People’s Commissariat of Education. During these years, he is engaged in children's literature, conceived the cycle “Legends and Tales”: “Krupenichka”, “Zorenka”. Nikolai Dmitrievich Teleshov died on March 14 and was buried in the Novodevichy cemetery.
