August Lesha biography
In his youth he lived in Haydenheim, in - studied at universities in Tubingen, Freiburg, Kile and Bonn. He received an economist’s diploma in Freiburg, in the year in Bonn he received a doctor's degree. He began his scientific career with the study of economic demography, considered the influence of demographic processes primarily, the natural growth of the population on the proposal of labor and the economic growth of individual territories.
Soon, the area of interests of Lesha is shifted in the direction of studying the theory of the placement of production and the territorial organization of industry. The first works of Lesha attracted the attention of the scientific community and thanks to Rockefeller scholarship in the middle of X, he visited the United States twice, where he studied the theories of production that existed at that time and collected material for his own research.
Lesh negatively evaluated the policy of the Nazis, however, despite the proposals for working in the United States, he did not want to become an emigrant and remained in Germany. In the year, he began working at the Kil Institute of World Economy as a senior researcher. The rejection of the fascist regime, his fundamental refusal to join the NSDAP and the past, cooperation with American colleagues led to his scientific disgrace.
He was not allowed to teach, the collection of material for an “unreliable” scientist was difficult, the institute was evacuated from Kile to the town of Ratzeburg in October. The health of August Lesha, who was forced to work in an atmosphere of constant nervousness, which was aggravated by a wartime atmosphere, was undermined, he died of scarlet fever three weeks after the end of the war.
The contribution to the science of August Lesh was the first scientist to propose the theory of production placement in a market economy, where the main role was assigned not to reduce the costs of raw materials and transport, but to maximize profit. The ideal shape of the network is hexagonal honeycombs, in reality the cells have the shape of triangles or quadrangles. Unlike the similar constructions of Walter Crystaller, the model proposed by the Lyusk was a model of market equilibrium, and not a planned order, was actually a model of territorial self -organization of society and its economic life.
The works of August Lesha were translated into a number of foreign languages including Russian, they aroused the greatest interest in the United States, where they had a great influence on the formation of the school of spatial analysis, in particular, the work of Walter Aizard, whose theoretical core is largely the concept of the economic landscape Lesha.
